Welfare

The Spouses' Club Of The Fort Sam Houston Area makes Welfare Contributions on an annual basis every May.  The monies distributed are contingent upon fundraising by club members beginning in September of the calendar year.  Traditionally, the club makes a significant contribution to the organizations within the community.  These organizations contribute significantly to the well-being of our families and to the quality of life at Fort Sam Houston.

Welfare Distribution at the May luncheon

Warrior and Family Support Center (WFSC):  $700
All donations will be used for OEF and OIF Soldiers and their family members attending the center.  The center is open 7 days a week and totally supported by community donations and volunteers (only a few paid staff).  Funds will be used for phone, gift and gas cards, disposable cameras, music, dvd’s and tickets to local events etc.  The WFSC is not allowed to raise funds per government regulation.

It’s Not Easy Being Green Conference:  $700
A 2 day Spouses conference held at FSH that is totally organized by volunteers and only funding is community support.  All presenters and speakers are also volunteers.  Participants may take part in many and varied classes during the 2 days.  For example: self defense, cooking, jewelry making, finance, dancing, photography, and many more.  Last year’s conference offered 15 different classes and hosted 106 participants.  The next conference set for Sept 2011 and much planning has already been done.  Funds will be used for childcare, lunches and other conference related costs.

Rotary Club of West Point-Highland Falls, N.Y:  $600
Funds will be used to buy black packs for soldiers at the SFAC at WRAMC.  The black backpacks are used for soldiers to transport medical files, PT gear and personal items while commuting back and forth to the hospital.  Black is the required color by Army regulation.  $600 will buy 17 backpacks for outpatient soldiers at WRAMC.  This project is totally funded by donations and all donations will go toward the purchase of backpacks.

 The Spouse Club Of  The Fort Sam Houston Area makes Welfare Contributions on an annual basis every May.  The monies distributed are contingent upon fundraising by club members beginning in September of the calendar year.  Traditionally, the club makes a significant contribution to the organizations within the community.  These organizations contribute significantly to the well-being of our families and to the quality of life at Fort Sam Houston.

ELIGIBILITY
Any Non-Profit organization supporting the welfare of the Armed Forces and their families located at Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis.

SELECTION
The Welfare Committee will select the recipients the 3rd week of April.  The number of recipients is related to the number of qualified applicants and the total monies raised after the club’s final Spring fundraising activity.  Organizations will be notified following the club’s May Board Meeting where the Welfare Committee presents their recommendations and board members vote.  The recipient’s will be notified by mail or phone.

DEADLINE:  Applications MUST be postmarked or emailed  by April 2, 2012
